Batang Quiapo

Synopsis of  Batang Quiapo

FPJ’s Batang Quiapo, or simply Batang Quiapo (translates to “Quiapo Kid”), is a 2023 Philippine action-comedy drama television series. It serves as a modern reimagining of the 1986 action-comedy film of the same name starring Fernando Poe Jr. The series, directed by Malu L. Sevilla, Darnel Joy R. Villaflor, Coco Martin, and Kevin de Vela, aired on Kapamilya Channel’s Primetime Bida evening block, replacing Mars Ravelo’s Darna. It also streamed internationally on The Filipino Channel.

The show centers around Tanggol (played by Coco Martin), a young man raised in the bustling streets of Quiapo, Manila. Tanggol navigates the harsh realities of his environment, resorting to petty crimes to survive. Despite his rough exterior, Tanggol yearns for the love and acceptance of his parents, Rigor (John Estrada) and Marites (Cherry Pie Picache). His feats as a hustler gain notoriety, propelling him towards becoming a prominent figure in the Quiapo underworld.

As Tanggol’s reputation grows, he encounters a series of challenges that force him to confront his past and true identity. He crosses paths with Monica (Lovi Poe), a strong-willed woman who becomes entangled in his life. Meanwhile, a complex web of family secrets unravels, leading Tanggol on a journey of self-discovery and redemption.
